First Feedback

In this feedback session we presented our two proposals (previous posts). In the session we were able to gain advice on which project would be best to develop over the coming weeks. This was what was advised/ said...
  • Overall both proposals could be developed for a book format.
  • Preferred proposal was the one looking at indents left by readers on books due to the different groups and places that I can find books with indents on them.
  • I also wanted to do this project more because of the accessible nature of recording books as objects in the time frame of this module and also I have already done a module on city boundaries (the other proposal).
  • Idea to photograph bookmarks individually, this would hint at the personality of the owner because of the many different bookmarks there are, this may be a separate project I can do another time.
  • In my initial shots I had photographed a family members collection of war books, this revealed that there aren't a lot of my family who write on their books etc so there isn't too much I could record if I were to just use my family as a book source.
  • I could use a public library as a source for recording indents.
  • Different categories of books could mean different types of indents being left eg.sociology books would contain more note and photography books wouldn't really contain many signs of the reader.
  • Explore angles further.
  • I will need coherent lighting in my final photographs to enter in the book so may need to try photographing in same place using the same natural light or use the studio where I can effectively control the lighting.
Therefore in the next week I will do a few shoots. I will continue to do my families book collection as in the initial shots I only did on persons books. I will also do some shoots using public library books, maybe using books from different categories, I especially will look at the sociology side because of the analysis that readers do when reading these sorts of books. I will continue to work on a black background as this worked well. I will use natural light until I can narrow down compositions/ style etc.
